Aquavitro Carbonate is a concentrated source of potassium carbonate, designed to safely raise and maintain carbonate hardness (KH) in planted freshwater aquariums. KH stabilizes pH levels, preventing dangerous fluctuations that can harm both plants and fish. In addition, the included potassium supports healthy plant growth, making this product a dual-purpose buffer and macronutrient source.

Key Features

  • Raises and stabilizes carbonate hardness (KH)
  • Helps maintain stable pH in planted aquariums
  • Provides potassium, an essential plant macronutrient
  • Especially useful in soft water or CO₂-injected systems
  • Compatible with the full Aquavitro Plant line

🧪 Usage Instructions

Initial Setup

  1. Shake well before use.
  2. Dose 4 mL per 80 L (20 US gallons) to raise alkalinity by 1 dKH (0.36 meq/L).
  3. Add gradually over several hours if large increases are needed to avoid sudden pH shifts.
  4. Ideal target KH range is 3–5 dKH for planted tanks with CO₂ injection.

Maintenance Dosing

  • Test KH weekly and dose as needed to maintain desired buffer levels.
  • Regular dosing frequency may be once or twice weekly, depending on plant uptake and water change schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why is carbonate hardness important in a planted tank?
A:
KH stabilizes pH and prevents sudden swings that can stress plants and fish—especially in CO₂-enriched aquariums.

Q: Can Carbonate replace potassium supplements like Aquavitro Propel?
A:
While Carbonate supplies potassium, it is primarily for buffering KH. For full potassium dosing, Aquavitro Propel is recommended.

Q: Will using Carbonate raise my pH too much?
A:
When used as directed, it raises pH gradually and safely. Always test and dose in stages if making significant changes.

Q: Can I use Carbonate in soft water from RO/DI systems?
A:
Yes, it is ideal for remineralizing RO/DI water by restoring essential buffering capacity.

Q: How often should I test KH when using Carbonate?
A:
Test at least once per week or after water changes to ensure consistent buffering and plant health.

Q: Is Carbonate reef-safe or for freshwater use only?
A:
Carbonate is specifically formulated for freshwater planted aquariums, not for reef or marine systems.

Q: Can I overdose Aquavitro Carbonate?
A:
Excessive use may cause pH to rise too high, so always follow dosing guidelines and monitor KH and pH regularly.

Q: What’s the difference between Carbonate and Balance?
A:
Carbonate targets KH (carbonate hardness), while Balance adjusts general hardness (GH)—both work together for full mineral balance.
