Seachem denitrate is a natural, high-capacity biofiltration media designed to remove nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and organics from both freshwater and marine aquariums. With its porous matrix, denitrate supports both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, enabling effective biological denitrification within a compact and efficient media.

Key Features

  • Removes nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and organics
  • Supports both aerobic and anaerobic bacterial colonies
  • Ideal for low-flow environments such as canister filters or sumps
  • 100% natural and long-lasting—does not need frequent replacement
  • Safe for freshwater, marine, and planted aquariums

🧪 Usage Instructions

Initial Setup (When first introducing into system):

  • Rinse before use to remove dust.
  • Amount: Use 250 mL of de❊nitrate for every 100–200 L (25–50 US gallons) of water.
  • Placement: For best results, place in a low-flow area such as a sump, canister filter, or trickle filter. Flow rate should be <200 L/hr (50 US gal/hr) to allow for anaerobic bacterial activity.

Maintenance Dosing (Ongoing filtration):

  • de❊nitrate lasts several months to years depending on bio-load.
  • Do not clean with chlorinated water—rinse gently with old tank water if needed.
  • Replace only when nitrate begins rising again and bacterial populations are exhausted.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How does denitrate differ from standard biological media?
A:
Unlike standard bio media, denitrate has a unique pore structure that supports both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, allowing it to remove nitrate in addition to ammonia and nitrite.

Q: Can I use denitrate in a high-flow filter?
A:
No. denitrate is optimized for low-flow conditions. High flow prevents anaerobic zones from forming, which are essential for denitrification.

Q: Is it safe for planted or reef tanks?
A:
Yes, it is completely safe for planted, reef, and fish-only systems.

Q: When should I replace denitrate?
A:
Only when you observe a gradual increase in nitrate levels and bacterial activity has diminished.

Q: Can I use denitrate with chemical filtration like carbon or Purigen?
A:
Yes, it’s compatible with chemical filtration products. Just ensure it is placed in a low-flow section for optimal results.
