Initial Setup:

1. Preparation:

   • Rinse Thoroughly: Before adding MatrixCarbon to your aquarium, rinse it thoroughly with dechlorinated water to remove any dust or debris. If using tap water, treat it with a water conditioner like Seachem Prime to neutralize chlorine and chloramine.

2. Placement:

   • Filter Media Bag: Place the rinsed MatrixCarbon in a filter media bag. This makes it easier to handle and maintain.
   • Filter Installation: Insert the media bag into your filter. MatrixCarbon can be used in canister filters, hang-on-back filters, chemical filtration modules, box filters, or any high-flow area of a trickle filter. Ensure it is placed in an area with good water flow to maximize its effectiveness.

3. Initial Dosing:

   • Amount: Use 250 mL of MatrixCarbon for every 400 liters (100 US gallons) of aquarium water. Adjust the quantity based on your tank size.
     

Maintenance:

1. Regular Cleaning:

   • Frequency: During regular filter maintenance, rinse the MatrixCarbon media bag in aquarium water that you have removed during a water change. Avoid using tap water directly as it can reduce the effectiveness of the carbon.
   • Debris Removal: Gently shake the media bag to dislodge any accumulated debris. This helps maintain optimal water flow and filtration efficiency.

2. Replacement:

   • Longevity: Seachem MatrixCarbon typically lasts several months before needing replacement. The exact duration depends on the bio-load of your tank.
   • Partial Replacement: If you notice a decline in water clarity or filtration efficiency, consider replacing a portion (about 25-50%) of the MatrixCarbon media. This helps maintain consistent filtration while introducing fresh media.

3. Monitoring:

   • Water Parameters: Regularly test your aquarium water for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. This helps ensure that the chemical filtration is functioning effectively.
   • Adjustments: If you observe elevated levels of these compounds, check the placement and cleanliness of the MatrixCarbon media and adjust as necessary.

1. Is Seachem MatrixCarbon just pumice?
   No, MatrixCarbon is a bituminous coal-based, macroporous carbon specifically designed for optimal water filtration.

2. Why are my nitrates not decreasing?
   Ensure proper tank management and adequate biofiltration. MatrixCarbon primarily removes organic molecules, not nitrates directly.

3. Do I need to replace MatrixCarbon?
   Yes, it should be replaced every few months or as needed based on water quality.

4. Available Sizes?
   250ml, 500ml & 1L 

You may return most new, unopened items within 7 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).

If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.

We can ship to virtually any address in the world. Note that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations.
