Seachem PhosNet is a high-efficiency granular ferric oxide (GFO) media designed to rapidly remove phosphates and silicates from both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Its high porosity and surface area ensure maximum binding capacity, effectively reducing phosphate and silicate levels to very low concentrations. PhosNet is less dusty than most competing GFO products, making it easier to use and handle. This media helps prevent the growth of unwanted algae and maintains a clean, healthy environment for your aquatic life.

Key Features

  • High Efficiency: Rapidly reduces phosphate and silicate levels.
  • Large Binding Capacity: High porosity and surface area for maximum adsorption.
  • Low Dust: Less dust compared to other GFO products, making it easier to use.
  • Durable: Maintains physical integrity under mechanical stress.
  • Versatile: Suitable for use in canister filters, media chambers, box filters, and high-flow areas of trickle filters.

Why Choose Seachem PhosNet?

  • Effective and Fast-Acting: Quickly reduces phosphate and silicate levels, preventing algae growth and maintaining water clarity.
  • High Capacity: Offers a large binding capacity due to its high porosity and surface area.
  • Durable and Reliable: Maintains its integrity under mechanical stress, ensuring long-lasting performance.
  • Trusted Brand: Seachem is known for its high-quality, scientifically-backed aquarium products.

Initial Setup

  1. Determine the Required Amount:

    • Use 50 grams (1/2 cup) of Seachem PhosNet for every 200 liters (50 US gallons) of saltwater or 400 liters (100 US gallons) of freshwater.
  2. Rinse the Media:

    • Rinse PhosNet thoroughly with freshwater to remove any dust or debris before placing it in the filter.
  3. Place in Filter:

    • Filter Bag: Place the rinsed PhosNet in a filter bag.
    • Canister Filter: Place the filter bag in the media basket of the canister filter.
    • Other Filters: PhosNet can also be used in chemical filtration modules, box filters, or any high-flow area of a trickle filter.
  4. Start the Filter:

    • Turn on the filter and ensure proper water flow through the PhosNet media.

Maintenance

  1. Regular Monitoring:

    • Test phosphate or silicate concentrations with a reliable test kit (e.g., Salifert Phosphate or MultiTest Silicate) after 4 days of use.
    • If the concentration has not dropped to around 0.02 mg/L, replace the PhosNet. Otherwise, leave it in place until levels begin to climb again.
  2. Replacing the Media:

    • Replace PhosNet every 4 to 6 weeks, or when you notice a decline in water quality.
    • Rinse the new media thoroughly before placing it in the filter.
  3. Rinsing the Media:

    • During routine maintenance, rinse the PhosNet with aquarium water to remove any accumulated debris.
    • Avoid using tap water, as chlorine and chloramines can harm beneficial bacteria.
  4. Storage:

    • Store Seachem PhosNet in a cool, dry place.
    • Ensure the container is tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption.
  1. How often should I replace PhosNet?
Replace PhosNet when phosphate or silicate levels begin to rise again, typically every few weeks depending on your aquarium’s conditions.

  2. Can I use PhosNet in a reef tank?
Yes, PhosNet is safe for use in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, including reef tanks.

  3. Will PhosNet affect my aquarium’s pH?
No, PhosNet has minimal impact on pH levels due to its low ash content.

  4. Available Sizes?
    500g
