🧪 Usage Instructions

Initial Setup

• Rinse Purfiltrum in aquarium or RO water before use.
• Place in a fine‑mesh filter bag (e.g., Seachem’s The Bag) and position in a high‑flow filter chamber — canister filters, HOB filters, media reactors, etc.
• Dosage: Each 225 mL (~1 cup) treats up to 1,000 L (250 US gal) for up to 6 months.

Maintenance & Regeneration

• Replace or regenerate when beads turn dark brown or black, indicating exhaustion.
• Regeneration process:
• Soak in 1:1 bleach:water (8.25% non‑scented bleach) for 24 hrs in non-metal container.
• Rinse thoroughly.
• Soak in dechlorinator solution (e.g., 4 Tbsp Seachem Prime per cup) for 8 hrs.
• Re-use until beads no longer return to their original color or smell of chlorine persists

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: When is Purfiltrum exhausted and how do I regenerate it?
A: Purfiltrum beads darken to deep brown or black when exhausted. Soak in 1:1 bleach:water for 24 hrs, rinse, then soak in 4 Tbsp Seachem Prime (or 16 g Seachem Safe) per cup for 8 hrs

Q: Why is nitrate still high even after using Purfiltrum?
A: Purfiltrum removes organic waste, preventing ammonia/nitrite/nitrate formation—but does not remove nitrates directly. You’ll need water changes or denitrifying bio-media like Matrix to lower nitrates further

Q: Why does new Purfiltrum smell “fishy” or like rotten eggs?
A: Some new packs emit a slight fishy or sulfur odor, which is normal. Just rinse well and it won’t impact performance

Q: Can I use Purfiltrum in a media reactor?
A: Yes, but reduce flow—Purfiltrum is light and may get ejected if the reactor tumbles it too much. Keep it at the top layer with gentle circulation

Q: Some beads ended up in the tank—do I need to worry?
A: No harm done—they’re inert and won’t break down, but we recommend removing them manually, e.g., during a water change

Q: Can slime‑coat products foul Purfiltrum?
A: Yes—amine‑based slime coats can foul the resin and react during regeneration. Use non‑amine alternatives like Aquavitro Alpha, Premier, Seachem Prime or Safe to avoid issues

You may return most new, unopened items within 7 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).

If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.
